Reflection

Here is the mystical, miraculous truth: God shares His light in us. The light does not originate in us, but because of who Jesus is and our decision to follow Him, we become light that cannot be overwhelmed. How will the darkness be pierced if not by you?

This is where persistent prayer transforms from receiving to giving. When we persistently seek God's light for ourselves, we inevitably become conduits of that light to others. We comfort the lonely. We tend to the sick. We give to those in need. We don't have to illuminate the whole earth—just be a light to someone this week.

Persistent prayer keeps us connected to the Source. A disconnected light cannot shine. But when we maintain that connection through regular, ongoing conversation with God, His light flows through us naturally. We become like the bus driver who offered to take people's burdens, or like Desmond Doss praying "one more" on the battlefield, or like the small oil lamp that Jesus's family would have used—not bright enough to light up everything, but sufficient to illuminate the next step for those nearby.

Those who claim the name of Christ need to be light in a dark world, offering hope and showing peace when everyone else is falling apart. This is our calling, sustained by persistent prayer. We cannot give what we do not have. We cannot shine with light we haven't received.

Who in your life is walking in darkness right now and needs you to be light for them? What is preventing you from shining there?

Action Step

Choose one specific way to be light this week—visit someone lonely, provide a meal, offer encouragement, share hope. Pray persistently before and during this action.

Prayer

Father, You have made me light in this dark world. Keep me connected to You through persistent prayer so Your light can flow through me. Show me who needs the light You've placed in me. Give me courage to shine. Use me to pierce someone's darkness this week. Amen.
